Dublin

Welcome to the capital of my country! While Dublin is not a pretty city like its neighbouring rivals, it does have an incredible amount of character. From the people, to the history and culture, Dublin is somewhere I am very proud of.

The best way to see Dublin is to make use of the public bikes in the city centre. A 3 day ticket costs €3 EUR. Just bring the bike back after 30 minutes to avoid a charge, then take out another one. It beats buses and taxis.

Why not go to see a GAA (Gaelic Games Association) match? Our national sport dates back to 1884, when it was officially formed, and still possesses the lunacy of a sport over a century old. Coming in its two most popular forms of Gaelic football, and hurling. Although being from Kilkenny I have to recommend going to see a hurling match, as we are the record holding champions! A kind of cross between rugby and lacrosse. Visit the third largest capacity stadium in Europe – Croke Park, and witness the fastest games on grass! Trust me; it will not let you down.

Even go on a free walking tour through the capital. Dublin City Council arrange these tours daily from Dublin Castle.

Before you leave Dublin, you have to check out the nightlife. Go anywhere in the Temple Bar area for a fleet of traditional pubs stacked upon each other to see Dublin in all its glory. Particularly, the Temple Bar pub, in Temple Bar. Its kind of a tourist thing but its guaranteed to be a good night.Keep in mind drinking in this area is expensive, around €5.50 EUR for a pint. Be careful though because as the night goes on so does the prices. I have paid over €7 EUR for a pint on Temple Bar before.
