Galway

Galway is a major tourist destination with backpackers. This is because you have a small bustling city with culture and nightlife, and then in a few minutes you can be in nomads land exploring Ireland’s west coast. Which makes for excellent hikes and camping.

Anyone interested in coming to Ireland can not pass an opportunity so see Galway. Tradition and culture blossom here. From Irish dancing, the food, the landscape, the roads, to traditional music outbursts in pubs, it has it all.

A hostel dorm will cost around €10-€15 EUR. There are plenty of cheap food stalls here too (don’t eat on the high street). Don’t even think about public transportation here, Galway is so small and manageable. Win win for us backpackers.

Even if it rains here, just head to Pure Skill Galway. An indoor sports center where you can try activities like hurling, cricket, basketball, soccer and rugby. Even sport like baseball.

If you have a car, drive the R355 road to see the Great Famine Memorial. A very scenic drive that shows the memorial honouring all those who died from starvation during the famine times.

With this guide, you will not fail getting the best out of Galway. If you are looking for something more action packed, go there in late July when the Galway Races are on. Its 7 days of pure madness. With the pubs and streets littered with people.
