Kerry

Where oh where do I start? This is my favourite retreat when I go back to Ireland. The pinnacle of an Irish adventure lies here. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time here. This is a large county and you should base your stays mainly in Dingle town and Killarney.

Unfortunately not many people I know visit here because its one of the furthest places away from Dublin airport, but it is so worth the journey. Anyway, the furthest distance in Ireland isn’t actually as far as you think.

Here is a quick list of my favourite things to do in Kerry:

  • Boat tour with Funghi the Dolphin (€16 EUR) – Kerry’s local hero
  • Boat ride out to Skellig Michael (€60 EUR) –  UNESCO world heritage site built by monksin the 12th century. Used as a film location for the recent Star Wars
  • Climb Carrauntoohil – Irelands highest mountain at 1,038m
  • Tour Dingle – A fishing town on the peninsula. Lively bars and incredible secenry make this one of my favourite places in the world
  • Explore Molls Gap – An incredible scenic route that would make a difficult cycle

With a mixed tourism scene of both young an old, there is something for everybody here. Expect to pay a little over the odds in Kilarney, due to being a city in demand, even with the Irish.
